Artwork

Artist + Curator + Educator

I was born an artist and was lucky to have a mom who is a talented artist in her own right that always supported my creativity. During my undergrad years studying Business at Morehouse College, I didn’t spend much time making art but returned to it after graduation as a form of personal art therapy. I ultimately decided to attend graduate school at the School of Visual Arts where I earned an MFA in Fine Arts. During my time at SVA and for several years after graduation (prior to starting Clever), I worked as a commercial artist. Check out some of my work below.

I’ve also had the pleasure of serving as a Program Director managing arts educators and as a teaching artist for several arts education programs over the years. I’ve taught toddlers, teens, and Elders in classrooms and non-traditional settings across NYC and in a few places across the country and internationally. From drawing and painting to video and design, I’ve developed curricula and interactive arts experiences designed to make arts and culture accessible to all.

As someone who knows the challenges of being an artist- especially in NYC- it always feels good to offer artists opportunities to shine. One of my favorite curatorial experiences was working with the legendary Margaret Rose Vendryes on co-curating the 2020 Southeast Queens Biennial at The Miller Gallery of Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning and The Fine Arts Gallery at York College. With the theme of “Writing Home: Literacy. Identity. Environment,” the biennial supports 10 Queens-based artists working across disciplines to address literacy, identity, and environment with work that investigates ways of being an integral part of the borough’s fabric through visual art.
